Domenica Maloney is a full-time freelance artist, illustrator, and instructor based in the Bay Area. She holds a BFA in Animation/Illustration from San Jose State University, with a minor in Renaissance Art History. Trained in the classical Florentine method under artist and educator Sheldon Borenstein, Domenica brings a strong foundation of draftsmanship to both her personal work and teaching practice.
For over seven years, Domenica has taught drawing and painting, the past five of which have been at a Bay Area high school. She offers instruction in traditional media—including watercolor, acrylic, oil, and gouache—as well as digital tools and graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite.
Domenica’s personal work draws inspiration from late 19th-century oil painting, the French Symbolist movement, and early 20th-century storybook illustration. Her style merges the romanticism and discipline of Renaissance drawing with a contemporary eye for color, mood, and narrative. She is especially passionate about painting from life, exploring nature through her sketchbook, and nurturing the creative spark in her students.
When she’s not working on freelance projects or teaching, Domenica can be found drawing in the wild, leafing through oversized art books, or getting lost in the galleries of San Francisco's art museums.
